Hello and welcome to my website! My full name is Juliet Clare Bell, but I go by my middle name- everyone calls me Clare. I’m a children’s author, an ADHD-er and a mum of three. I live in Birmingham, UK. My literary agent is James Catchpole at The Catchpole Agency.
I have been writing since I was a child, but I wasn’t always an author. After ten years as a research psychologist at the University of Bristol, I left to have children, and I started writing picture books. My first book, ‘Don’t Panic, Annika!’, came out in 2011, and since then, over 35 of my books have been published!
In addition to my traditionally published books, I’ve worked in collaboration with lots of different charities and organisations, including Birmingham Children’s Hospital for ‘The Unstoppable Maggie McGee’, Edward’s Trust for ‘Benny’s Hat’, and Bournville Village Trust for ‘Two Brothers and a Chocolate Factory’.
Many of my books explore complex themes, including:
I’ve also written Educational Books for Pearson and over 30 Early Readers (age 3-6), published by Oxford University Press, Collins and Franklin Watts.
I love doing Author Visits in schools and other educational settings. You can read more about them here!
Through the RLF Fellowship Scheme, I mentor University students. I critique their work and provide guidance on how to write critical essays.
Feel free to check out my blogposts. I’ve written about my journey with ADHD, exploring bereavement, and lots of advice on writing picture books.
